There’s nothing quite like the cozy sweetness of a classic sweet potato casserole — creamy, cinnamon-spiced potatoes topped with golden, gooey marshmallows. This dish is a holiday staple for good reason: it’s easy to make, irresistibly delicious, and guaranteed to steal the spotlight on your table.

Ingredients

  • 6 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • Dash of salt
  • 1 c. white sugar
  • ½ c. brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. ground cinnamon (or to taste)
  • 1 Tbsp. butter, softened
  • 1 bag miniature marshmallows

Directions

  1. In a large pot, put all your cut sweet potatoes and cover with water and a dash of salt; bring to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until tender, about 20 minutes. Drain well.
  3. Preheat oven to 375°F and grease a deep casserole dish.
  4. Mash sweet potatoes in a large bowl until smooth and lump-free.
  5. Stir in white sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter until fully combined.
  6. Transfer the sweet potato mixture to the prepared casserole dish.
  7. Cover with tinfoil and bake for about 25 minutes.
  8. Remove from oven and remove the tin foil. Cover the top evenly with mini marshmallows.
  9. Return to oven for another 5-10 minutes, or until marshmallows are golden and slightly crisp on top.
  10. Serve warm and enjoy!

Pro Tip: Want extra flavor? Add a splash of vanilla extract or sprinkle in some crushed pecans before baking. Perfectly sweet and perfectly Southern!
