There’s nothing quite like the cozy sweetness of a classic sweet potato casserole — creamy, cinnamon-spiced potatoes topped with golden, gooey marshmallows. This dish is a holiday staple for good reason: it’s easy to make, irresistibly delicious, and guaranteed to steal the spotlight on your table.
Ingredients
- 6 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
- Dash of salt
- 1 c. white sugar
- ½ c. brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp. ground cinnamon (or to taste)
- 1 Tbsp. butter, softened
- 1 bag miniature marshmallows
Directions
- In a large pot, put all your cut sweet potatoes and cover with water and a dash of salt; bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until tender, about 20 minutes. Drain well.
- Preheat oven to 375°F and grease a deep casserole dish.
- Mash sweet potatoes in a large bowl until smooth and lump-free.
- Stir in white sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter until fully combined.
- Transfer the sweet potato mixture to the prepared casserole dish.
- Cover with tinfoil and bake for about 25 minutes.
- Remove from oven and remove the tin foil. Cover the top evenly with mini marshmallows.
- Return to oven for another 5-10 minutes, or until marshmallows are golden and slightly crisp on top.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Pro Tip: Want extra flavor? Add a splash of vanilla extract or sprinkle in some crushed pecans before baking. Perfectly sweet and perfectly Southern!
